The 18-year-old student lost consciousness and required immediate medical attention. They were taken to a local hospital for further treatment, the school said.

In a letter that went out the parents, Principal Jamel Jernigan said the incident happened during one of the school's lunch waves in the cafeteria on Tuesday, March 29. A staff member quickly intervened and police were called to the school, Jernigan said.

Baltimore County police took the attacking student into custody and is said to receive "additional consequences" that "will be given in accordance with the Student Handbook and Policy."

"I want to remind our students that this violent and aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. It is dangerous and extremely disruptive to school operations," Principal Jernigan said. "We will take swift disciplinary action and will refer students to law enforcement."

The names of both students have not been released. This is a developing story so check back for updates.
